Blakney Surpasses Miller as All-Time Leading Scorer
Farmingdale State - 72, Purchase College - 56
Purchase, N.Y. - Junior guard Kimberly Blakney
(Brooklyn, N.Y./Benjamin Banneker) surpassed her former teammate
Mercedes Miller's All-Time scoring record last night, as she scored
26 points in the Rams 72-56 victory over Purchase. Blakney, who
joined Farmingdale's roster halfway through her rookie season, now
stands atop the Rams' career scoring list with 1,064 points to
date. Miller finished her three-year career in 2008 with 1,046
points.
Purchase led at the half 30-28, as Farmingdale struggled shooting just 35-percent in the first, but the Rams came through in the second to take the conference victory. Blakney's 26 was a game-high, while freshman guard Shemique Hooks (Westbury, N.Y./Westbury) scored 12 points. Freshman center Dominique Cunningham (Amityville, N.Y./Copiague) finished with nine points.
The Panthers were led by senior forward Jennifer Danio (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's) with 24 points and senior forward Patricia Orellana (New York, N.Y./Economics and Finance) with 15 points.
The Rams will now play at Old Westbury on Saturday, January 24th in a Skyline Conference game at 2:00 p.m.
