Strong Second Half Powers Rams Past Sage
Farmingdale State - 82, Sage - 43
Troy, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's
basketball team traveled to Sage yesterday and defeated the Gators
82-43, despite only leading by five points at the half. The Rams
improved to 9-4 overall, 7-1 in the Skyline Conference, while Sage
fell to 1-13, 1-7 in conference play.
With a 26-21 lead at halftime, the Rams scored 56 second half
points and forced 22 turnovers allowing a season-low 43 points.
Farmingdale State had five players score in double-digits, led by
junior guard Tiffara Steward's (Elmont, N.Y./Sewanhaka) game-high
14 points. Freshman guard Shemique Hooks (Westbury, N.Y./Westbury)
scored 13, while sophomore guard Janel Monah (Westbury,
N.Y./Westbury) and junior forward Gabrielle Green (North Babylon,
N.Y./North Babylon) each scored 10 for Farmingdale. Junior guard
Kimberly Blakney (Brooklyn, N.Y./Benjamin Banneker) recorded her
second consecutive double-double, scoring 11 points and grabbing 12
rebounds to go along with nine assists, eight steals and five
blocks. Blakney is now eight points shy of tying Mercedes Miller
for first place on Farmingdale State's All-Time Scoring List.
Sage was led by junior forward Amber Muir (Schenectady, N.Y./Notre
Dame Bishop Gibbons), who shot 6-for-8 from the field and recorded
a team-high 12 points. Muir had nine rebounds in the game, eight of
which came on the defensive end. Junior guard Carlin DeMarinis
(Sartatoga Springs, N.Y.) scored eight points and recorded six
rebounds for the Gators.
The Rams will travel to Purchase for a conference game on
Thursday, January 22nd at 6:00 pm.
