Four Players in Double Figures in Rams Win

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team improved to 4-3 on the season after defeating non-conference opponent New Jersey City (2-6) this evening in Farmingdale, N.Y. Junior forward Gabrielle Green (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) was one of four Rams in double figures, scoring the games only double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Farmingdale State built up a 20-point advantage in the first, leading 30-10 with 7:27 remaining, before NJCU went on an 11-2 run over the next five minutes to cut their deficit to 11 just before halftime. The Rams led 41-25 at the half. Three players for Farmingdale scored 10 or more points in the first half, including freshman guard Shemique Hooks (Westbury, N.Y./Westbury) with 11 points, sophomore guard Janel Monah (Westbury, N.Y./Westbury) and Green each had 10. Green also pulled down nine rebounds, eight of which were offensive.
Farmingdale State led throughout the entire second half, increasing their lead to as much as 23 points with seven minutes to go, and held on for the 75-57 victory.
Hooks finished with 20 points, junior Kimberly Blakney (Brooklyn, N.Y./Benjamin Banneker) had 18 points and seven steals and Monah had 10 points.
For New Jersey City, junior guard Carolina Garcia (Plainville, N.J./Franklin) led with 18 points and freshman guard Lashawn Overton (Jersey City, N.J./Snyder) had 17 points.
Farmingdale State will wrap up their first semester of play against Yeshiva in a Skyline Conference Game on Thursday, December 18th at 8:00 p.m.
