Farmingdale State - 70, Mount Saint Mary - 68
Farmingdale, N.Y. – After taking the first
win in eight previous encounters from Mount Saint Mary College
(13-2, 7-1 Skyline) last year at home, 67-66, with a buzzer-beater,
senior forward Jasmine Sistrunk (Brooklyn, N.Y./South Shore)
decided history would repeat itself. Sistrunk took a pass from
sophomore guard Kamaya Miller (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood) to the hoop
for a lay up as the clock struck zero today. The score put
Farmingdale State (11-3, 9-0 Skyline) up by two for a 70-68
victory, which gives them sole possession of first place in the
Skyline Conference.
The Blue Knights led by eight shortly before the half, but the
Rams cut the lead to four before the break. The second half
remained close with neither team leading by more than three.
The Farmingdale State offense was lead by sophomore guard Kimberly
Blakney, who had a season-high 29 points and game-high seven
steals. Miller added a double-double, 13 points, and a game-high 10
rebounds.
Mount Saint Mary had three players in double figures. Sophomore
forward Shannon Sangster (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) led with 19
points. Senior guard Vanessa Lawson (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) added
12 points and Meredith Paggi (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Our Lady of
Lourdes) followed with 11 points and a team-high six boards.
The Rams will now host Mount Saint Vincent College on Saturday,
January 26th at 1:00 p.m., for another Skyline Conference game. The
men’s team will host Mount Saint Vincent College as well,
following the women at 3:00 p.m.
