- Rams edged by NYU; Blakney named All-Tournament -
New York, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team opened up their season this weekend at the NYU Invitational in New York, N.Y. The Rams defeated Cazenovia 85-61 in the opening round and then faced NYU in the Championship game. Farmingdale held a three-point lead at the half and led by one with four minutes to go, but NYU came back to take a 71-61 victory.
Against Cazenovia, the Rams led by 20 at halftime and rolled on to the victory as sophomore guard Kimberly Blakney (Brooklyn, N.Y./Benjamin Banneker) scored a game-high 23 points and added eight steals. Senior forward Jasmine Sistrunk (Brooklyn, N.Y./Southshore) had the games only double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
In the Championship match-up against NYU, Blakney led the team with 22 points. Senior guard Dankery Perez (New York, N.Y./Manhattan Center) finished with 15 points and eight assists.
The Rams now travel to Baruch College on Tuesday, November 20th at 7:00 p.m.
