Farmingdale, N.Y. – The second seeded Farmingdale State women's basketball team (21-7) has advanced to the ECAC Metro Finals with an 85-75 victory over third seeded Baruch (21-9) at home tonight. The Finals will be hosted by Farmingdale tomorrow night, March 3rd, at 6:00 p.m. against Montclair State (17-10), who defeated Richard Stockton 65-50 tonight to advance.
The Rams led throughout and took a five-point lead into the break. Farmingdale worked up a 14-point lead during the second before the Bearcats cut it back down to five with 2:32 left. The Rams increased the lead back to 11 with the help of two three-point plays from junior center Mercedes Miller (New York, N.Y./Manhattan Center). Farmingdale hit 9-of-10 free throws in the last three minutes to hold on for the semi-final win.
The Rams had five players in double figures. Freshman guard Kimberly Blakney (Brookyln, N.Y./Benjamin Banneker) led with a double-double, 18 points and 12 rebounds. Blankney added four steals and three assists to the mix. Junior guard Dankery Perez (New York, N.Y./Manhattan Center) added 17 points and seven rebounds, while Junior guard Christine Daley (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont) contributed 16 points and six rebounds. Senior guard Rochelle Clark (Bellport, N.Y./Bellport) scored 13 points with six steals and four assists. Miller finished with 12 points.
Baruch was led by junior guard Karlee Whipple (Lund, Nev./Lund), who finished with a game-high 22 points. Senior forward Racquel Reid (Bronx, N.Y./Washington Irving) added 21 points while junior forward Dominique McClendon (Chicago, Ill./Rich Central) finished with 16 points and a game-high 21 rebounds.
Farmingdale will now host the ECAC Metro Finals for the second consecutive year. The Rams captured the ECAC Metro title last year with a win over Kean, 73-61.
