Rams Fall to Mount Saint Mary in Finals

Newburgh, N.Y. - The Mount Saint Mary women's basketball team (24-4) won their eighth straight Skyline Conference Championship today, defeating the Rams (19-7) in the Finals 74-60. The Blue Knights will now receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament. Selections and pairings are announced on Monday, February 26th and first round action begins on Wednesday, February 28th.

Farmingdale State led for most of the first half, before the Blue Knights took a four-point lead with three minutes left and held a 37-33 lead at the half. In the first five minutes of the second, Mount Saint Mary quickly built the lead up to 12, as the Rams struggled shooting from the field (24.1%) and could not recover.

Senior center LaSheena Brown (Malverne, N.Y./Malverne) was outstanding with 19 points and 21 rebounds for the Blue Knights. Junior guard Vanessa Lawson (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) finished with 18 points and junior forward Jackie Marckert (Vorheesville, N.Y./Vorheesville) added 14 and seven rebounds.

Freshman Kimberly Blakney (Brooklyn, N.Y./Benjamin Banneker) was the scoring leader for Farmingdale State with 17 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Junior guard Christine Daley (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont) scored 10 points.

After winning last years ECAC Metro Championship, the Rams will await another ECAC bid. The selections will be announced on Monday night, February 26th.
