The Farmingdale State women's basketball team opened up the 2005-06 season with a win over FDU-Florham on Friday night at the NYU Tip-Off Tournament in New York City. The Rams led by three points at the half, 30-27, and were able to hold on for the 60-55 victory.
Sophomore Mercedes Miller (New York, NY/Manhattan Center) led the Rams with a game-high 19 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore I'shawna West (Hempstead, NY/Hempstead) finished with 12 points of her own. Freshman Rochelle Clark (Bellport, NY/Bellport) chipped in eight points in her first collegiate contest, including 6-of-6 from the free throw line.
For FDU-Florham, Ashley Flaherty (Hardyston, NJ/Pope John XXIII) led with 18 points and a game-high 12 rebounds (11 defensive), while Jesse Chalmers (Middletown, NJ/Middletown North) tallied 10 points and seven rebounds.
Farmingdale State will play in the Championship game against host NYU on Saturday afternoon at 4:00pm. NYU defeated SUNY Brockport 73-53 in the opening game of the tournament.
