Women Fall 55-56 in Final Seconds to Cortland State

Junior Dani Maye (Kirkwood, NY/Windsor) made two free throws with nine seconds remaining to give Cortland State a 56-55 victory over Farmingdale State in the first round of the NYU Invitational. The Rams played well against the top "also receiving votes" team in the D3Hoops.com pre-season Division III Top 25 poll as they only committed eight turnovers to Cortlands 21. Cortland (1-0) will face the nationally third-ranked host Violets in the championship game on Saturday at 8 p.m. NYU defeated Staten Island 84-54 in the tournament opener.

Senior forward Sharon Billips (Brooklyn, NY/John Jay) led Farmingdale (0-1) with 23 points. Freshman Ishawna West (Hempstead, NY/Hempstead) added 11 points and eight rebounds for the Rams.

The Rams will face Staten Island in the consolation game on Saturday at 6 p.m.
