Brandeis - 8, Farmingdale State - 0 (F/6)
Ithaca, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State softball team was eliminated from the NCAA Regional Tournament at Ithaca College after dropping a game to Brandeis University, 8-0, this afternoon. The Rams end their season at 20-17 overall, while the Judges (28-7-1) advanced to the final day of the Regional and will play #10 Ithaca tomorrow afternoon.
Brandeis opened the scoring in the second inning after a two-out single from sophomore shortstop Jolie Fujita (Honolulu, HI) followed by a throwing error allowed the Judges to take a 1-0 advantage.
The game remained 1-0 until the top of the sixth inning when Brandeis scored seven runs. The Judges loaded the bases with no one out and used a two-run double to go in front, 3-0. After a pop out, a two-run single and an RBI groundout gave Brandeis a six-run lead. The Judges added their seventh and eighth runs on a back-to-back RBI doubles by freshman third baseman Marley Felder (Miami, Fla.) and sophomore center fielder Melissa Rothenberg (Lawrenceville, N.J.).
Farmingdale State was set down in order in the bottom of the sixth as Brandeis earned the 8-0 run-rule victory.
For the Judges, Rothenberg was 3-for-4 with one run and an RBI, while senior catcher Keri Lehtonen (Oneco, Conn.) and freshman right fielder Amidori Anderson (Sparks, Nev.) drove in two runs apiece.
Brandeis junior pitcher Scottie Todd (Tampa, Fla.) (W, 13-5) threw a complete game shutout to pick up her 13th win of the season.
