Game 2: Farmingdale State - 3, Mount Saint Vincent - 0

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Farmingdale State junior Jaxie Collard (Deer Park, N.Y.) (6-4) and sophomore Julia Walpole (Mahopac, N.Y.) (4-2) each threw complete game shutouts to lead the FSC softball team to a pair of 3-0 victories over Mount Saint Vincent this afternoon.

Scoreless in the top of the second of game one, Dolphins (9-11, 4-4 Skyline) junior third baseman Deanna Nardi (Roseville, Cali.) hit a leadoff single. After J. Collard forced a fielder's choice and a pop out, sophomore designated player Hannah Thomson (Vacaville, Cali.) hit a double down the left field line but the Rams (10-12, 6-0 Skyline) were able to throw out the runner attempting to score from first to end the inning.

The Rams tallied the first run of the game in the bottom of the second on an RBI single through the right side by freshman third baseman Kayla Nuñez (Bay Shore, N.Y.) to score junior shortstop Christina Rayfield (Commack, N.Y.). Three batters later, FSC freshman left fielder Lexie Collard (Deer Park, N.Y.) hit a fly ball to left field that was dropped and allowed two runs to score to give the Rams a 3-0 advantage.

Over the next four innings each team only produced one base hit as the game remained 3-0. The Dolphins brought the tying run up to the plate with two outs in the top of the seventh, but J. Collard would strike out Thompson looking to secure the 3-0 victory.

Farmingdale State had two hits in the game as Nunez finished 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored and L. Collard was 1-for-3 with a single. J.Collard allowed six hits and struck out one in the complete game shutout.

For Mount Saint Vincent, senior pitcher Rachel Heizer (Vacaville, Cali.) (L, 4-5) and Thompson each tallied a double in the loss.

FSC scored a run in the first inning of the second game on an RBI double by junior third baseman Sierra Cardenales (Patchogue, N.Y.) which scored sophomore first baseman Jessica Lombardo (Levittown, N.Y.).

Still leading 1-0 in the bottom of the third, L. Collard hit a triple and later scored on a Lombardo single through the left side to put the Rams ahead, 2-0.

In the top of the fifth with two outs, the Dolphins loaded the bases on a single, an error and a walk but Walpole forced junior first baseman Katie Moos (Florida, N.Y.) to line out to short to keep Mount Saint Vincent off the board.

With two outs and runners on first and second in the bottom of the sixth, sophomore right fielder Sabrina Bencivenga (Sayville, N.Y.) hit an RBI single up the middle to give the Rams a 3-0 lead.

Walpole would pitch a 1-2-3 seventh as FSC took the second game, 3-0.

Cardenales finished 2-for-3 with an RBI, while L. Collard and Lombardo each were 1-for-3 and scored a run.

Dolphins' sophomore second baseman Sophia Herrera (San Diego, Cali.) and sophomore designated player Alanna Alioto-Reyes (Alameda, Cali.) tallied two hits apiece in the game.

Walpole registered four strikeouts in her complete game shutout, while Thompson (2-2) took the loss after striking out six and allowing only two earned runs.

The Rams next host Purchase for a Skyline Conference doubleheader on Sunday, April 15th starting at noon.
