Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State softball team picked up two Skyline wins today with a 7-0 and 13-1 victory over St. Joseph's-Brooklyn. The Rams now stand at 11-11 overall, while the Bears drop to 9-7, 3-5.
In the first game, FSC went ahead 4-0 with a five hit inning, including four doubles. Sophomore Alexa Luna (Martin County, Fla.) opened the game with a double to right center, before senior Lori Michalowski (Levittown, N.Y.) scored Luna with a sacrifice fly. A double to left center from sophomore Sierra Cardenales (Patchogue, N.Y.) brought home freshman Jessica Lombardo (Levittown, N.Y.), Kimberly Basile (Levittown, N.Y.) scored Cardenales with another double to left center, and Aleysha Midgett (Huntington, N.Y.) doubled to third to score Basile.
In the third inning, Basile made it 5-0 Rams with a single up the middle. Sophomore Christina Rayfield (Commack, N.Y.) hit an RBI double in the fourth for the 6-0 Farmingdale lead, before a run in the fifth on a Luna single would give the Rams the 7-0 advantage.
Sophomore pitcher Jaxie Collard (Deer Park, N.Y.) picked up the win, allowing just three hits and one walk with five strikeouts.
Game two saw 15 hits from the Rams, highlighted by a two-run homerun from Lombardo in the third, as FSC took the 13-1 victory in five innings.
Collard hurled four innings, allowing one run on six hits for her second win of the day to improve to 4-7 on the year.
For Farmingdale State, Cardenales finished the day 6-for-7 with four RBI's and four runs scored. Lombardo finished the day 4-for-6 with two RBI's and five runs scored. Basile went 3-for-5 with three RBI's and two runs scored.
The Rams will now host Baruch College on Wednesday, April 12th at 3:00 p.m.
