Softball Enters Skyline Championship Today

Newburgh, N.Y. - The six-team field is set for the 2016 edition of the Skyline Conference Softball Championship, and head coach Jessica Mushel's Mount Saint Mary College squad has earned the top seed after compiling a 16-2 record in regular-season conference play.

The Knights (19-10 overall) will play host to the four-team, double-elimination portion of the championship, beginning Friday afternoon (April 29) and continuing through Sunday (May 1) in Newburgh, NY. MSMC and second-seeded Sage (25-13/14-4) both earned byes to Friday's competition.

On Wednesday, a pair of single-elimination, first-round games took place at St. Joe's-LI and Mount Saint Vincent and both came down to the wire.

Third-seeded Mount Saint Vincent (20-14) faced off against No. 6-seed Purchase (19-12). The Dolphins came from behind twice and won the game 6-5, in walk-off fashion to advance to the Semifinals against #2 Sage College.

Fifth-seeded and five-time defending champion Farmingdale State (15-16) traveled to Patchogue, N.Y., to take on fourth-seeded St. Joseph's-Long Island (21-14). Farmingdale State trailed 8-0 after three innings and scored once in the fourth and fifth, before using an eight-run sixth inning en route to the 10-9 Skyline First Round victory.

Double-elimination play commences April 29 and rounds out on Sunday, May 1, with the conference's champion receiving an automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Softball Championship.
