Dailey's Walk-Off Sac Fly Forces Split with MSV

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State softball team opened Skyline Conference play this afternoon with a doubleheader against Mount Saint Vincent. The Dolphins captured the first game, 4-2, in nine innings before the Rams used a three-run seventh inning for the 6-5 comeback victory in game two.

In the bottom of the second in game one, junior left fielder Allison Dailey (Commack, N.Y.) led off with a walk and advanced to second on an Aleysha Midgett (Huntington, N.Y.) sac bunt. After reaching third on a wild pitch, Dailey later scored on a Mount Saint Vincent (1-1, 1-1) fielding error.

The Rams (3-9, 1-1) increased their lead to 2-0 in the third inning as senior catcher Meagan Anderson (Patchogue, N.Y.) came around to score on a wild pitch.

The Dolphins cut the deficit to 2-1 in the sixth after sophomore Samantha Broo (Manahawkin, N.J.) scored on a wild pitch. In MSV's next at-bat, an RBI fielder's choice from senior center fielder Danielle Maffei (Valhalla, N.Y.) tied the game at 2-2.

With bases loaded and no outs in the top of the ninth, senior left fielder Joann Guerra (Bronx, N.Y.) hit a 2 RBI single to left which put the Dolphins ahead, 4-2.

Farmingdale State managed two hits in the bottom of the ninth but were unable to score as they dropped the first game, 4-2.

Dailey finished 1-for-2 with a pair of walks and a run scored. Freshman pitcher Jaxie Collard (Deer Park, N.Y.) took the loss and fell to 2-5 after a complete game allowing two earned runs on eight hits.

The Dolphins were led by senior pitcher/first baseman Kathryn Dalton (Northampton, Penn) who was 2-for-4 with a run scored, while earning the win after 6.1 scoreless innings of work on the mound.

In game two, Mount Saint Vincent opened the scoring in the top of the first on an RBI single to left from junior second baseman Mackenzie Heizer (Vacaville, Calif.).

The Dolphins extended their lead to 3-0 in the next inning after Dalton hit a 2 RBI single down the left field line. Heizer followed with an RBI single to left to put the Dolphins on top, 4-0.

After Dailey scored on a fielding error in the bottom of the third, an RBI single up the middle by Emily Gaeta (Massapequa, N.Y.) cut the FSC deficit to 4-2.

The Rams closed within one in the fourth inning on a Dailey RBI single up the middle which scored Breanna Susa (Bay Shore, N.Y.). Mount Saint Vincent answered with a run in the top of the fifth to regain a two run lead, 5-3.

Trailing 5-3 in the bottom of the seventh, junior second baseman Brittany Ciaramitaro (Levittown, N.Y.) reached base with a one out walk. Freshman shortstop Christina Rayfield (Commack, N.Y.) tripled to right in FSC's next at-bat to pull the Rams within one. After a Susa walk, senior third baseman Cara Camerada (East Rockaway, N.Y.) tied the game at 5-5 with an RBI single scoring Rayfield. Anderson was walked to load the bases before Dailey recorded the game-winning sacrifice fly to center.

Dailey was 2-for-2 with a run scored and 2 RBI, while Susa had two hits and scored two runs. Collard (3-5) picked up the win after pitching a complete game for Farmingdale State.

The Rams next will play host to Purchase in a conference doubleheader on Sunday, March 20th at noon.
