Softball Selected to Capture Sixth Straight Conference Title

New York, N.Y. - The Skyline Conference softball coaches recently voted in their 2016 preseason poll and five-time defending champion Farmingdale State College has been tabbed to retain their conference title this spring.

Head coach Chris Mooney's Rams received five first-place votes in the tally, en route to 77 voting points. Farmingdale State returns senior All-Region catcher Meagan Anderson (Patchogue, N.Y.), who hit .396 with 34 runs scored, four triples and stole eight bases at the top of the Rams' lineup.

Just behind FSC in the poll is Mount Saint Mary College, who received four first-place votes and garnered 75 points after advancing to the 2015 Skyline championship round. College of Mount Saint Vincent placed third with 61 points, while The Sage Colleges received one first-place vote and notched 58 points.

Rounding out the poll are: St. Joseph's College-Long Island (49); Purchase College (37); first-year Skyline member St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn (34); SUNY Old Westbury (32); Sarah Lawrence College (15); and first-year Skyline softball participant Yeshiva University (12).

Farmingdale State finished 22-15 last season and captured their fifth straight Skyline Conference Title. Lori Michalowski (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) had the walk-off hit in the bottom of the eighth inning against Mount Saint Mary as the Rams earned a 1-0 win in the championship game.

Meghan Acton (Levittown, N.Y.) returns for her senior season after being named Second Team All-Conference in 2015. Freshmen Jaxie Collard (pitcher), Christina Rayfield (SS) and Aleysha Midgett (CF) are expected to compete for starting spots and have an immediate impact on the team.

FSC will open the 2016 season at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Florida (March 9-14). After returning from Florida, the Rams will play host to Mount Saint Vincent in a Skyline Conference DH on Saturday, March 19th at noon.
