Newburgh, N.Y. - The second-seeded Rams earned an 8-0 victory over #3 College of Mount Saint Vincent in their first game of the Skyline Conference softball playoffs in Newburgh, N.Y.
Farmingdale State (19-12) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an Andrea Klarman (Medford, N.Y.) home run to center which scored Meagan Anderson (Patchogue, N.Y.) who led off with a walk. A sac fly by junior designated player Meghan Acton (Levittown, N.Y.) later in the inning put the Rams ahead 3-0.
In the bottom of the second, senior center fielder Michelle Mongiello (Elmont, N.Y.) hit a 2 RBI double to right center to increase the Farmingdale State lead to 5-0.
After adding an unearned run in the fourth, senior right fielder Marissa Monaco (Bohemia, N.Y.) followed with an RBI single up the middle putting Farmingdale State on top 7-0. The Rams added their final run of the game on a two out RBI single to left center by Acton.
Senior pitcher Taylor Webb (West Babylon, N.Y.) retired the Dolphins (14-19) in order in the top of the fifth to seal the five inning run rule victory.
Klarman was 1-for-2 at the plate with three runs scored and 2 RBI, while Anderson was 1-for-1 with three runs scored. Webb earned the win after allowing only two hits and striking out five.
The Rams now will face #1 Mount Saint Mary tomorrow at 10:00 a.m.
