Winter Haven, Fla. - On the second day of the Rebel Spring Games in Winter Haven, Fla. the Farmingdale State softball team dropped contests to Catholic and Wheaton (Mass.).
Sophomore second baseman Rebekah Hoisl (West Hartford, Conn.) led off with a walk for the Cardinals (3-2) and later scored on an Erin Adams (Dunkirk, Md.) sac fly to put Catholic ahead, 1-0. An Alyssa Keane (Hamilton, N.J.) RBI single in the teams next at-bat gave the Cardinals a 2-0 first inning advantage.
Catholic added three runs in the second and third inning followed by two in the fourth to extend their lead to 10-0.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Rams broke the shutout as sophomore third baseman Brittany Ciaramitaro (Levittown, N.Y.) scored on a Catholic fielding error. Farmingdale State added one more run in the fourth inning but fell, 10-2.
Senior starting pitcher Taylor Tedeschi (Levittown, N.Y.) recorded her first loss of the season and now holds a 2-1 record.
In the second game of the afternoon against Wheaton (Mass.), the Lyons jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead through the first two innings.
In the top of the third, Ciaramitaro hit a 2-out RBI single to left which cut the Rams deficit 5-1. In Farmingdale State's next at-bat, senior center fielder Michelle Mongiello (Elmont, N.Y.) recorded an RBI single to right followed by another RBI single from Lori Michalowski (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) which closed the Rams within two, 5-3.
Wheaton responded with a run in the bottom of the third and put the game out of reach with a 4-run fourth inning en route to the 11-3 victory.
Mongiello was 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI for Farmingdale State (2-2), while senior pitcher Taylor Webb (West Babylon, N.Y.) was tagged with the loss after four innings of work.
The Rams next will face Simpson at 10:00 a.m. and Defiance at 12:15 on Friday.
