Anderson Breaks Doubles Record in DH Sweep

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Sophomore catcher Meagan Anderson (Patchogue, N.Y.) broke the single-season doubles record today with her 16th double of the year in the Rams doubleheader sweep of the College of Staten Island. Farmingdale State improved to 17-11 with the 3-2 and 4-2 victories.

In game one, junior centerfielder Michelle Mongiello (Elmont, N.Y.) ripped a double to left field in the bottom of the 1st to score senior shorstop Hillary Genova (Brentwood, N.Y.) and Anderson for a 2-0 Rams lead.

The Dolphins got a run back in the fourth, scoring on an error and would tie the game in the top of the sixth on a senior second baseman Christina DeCarlo (Staten Island, N.Y.) single through the left side. In the bottom of the inning with two outs and a runner on third, Anderson was being intentionally walked and got a hold of the second pitch for a the record-breaking double up the middle, which scored sophomore designated hitter Meghan Acton (Levittown, N.Y.) and gave the Rams the 3-2 lead and eventual win.

Junior pitcher Taylor Tedeschi (Levittown, N.Y.) got the win to improve to 7-7 overall while striking out two and allowing eight hits, no walks and one earned run. Anderson finished 3-for-4 with a run scored and RBI, while Mongiello went 1-for-3 with 2 RBI's.

In game two, Farmingdale took a 4-0 lead after the first two innings. Anderson ledoff with a single to centerfield and scored on a fielding error for a 1-0 lead. Acton knocked a 2 RBI double to left center in the second to make it 3-0, before a Mongiello RBI single made it 4-0.

Staten Island scored a run in both the third and fourth, but sophomore pitcher Renee Chicco (North Babylon, N.Y.) held the Dolphins to just five hits throughout for her first win of the year (1-0).

Anderson was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, an RBI and a walk, while Mongiello went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Genova tabbed two hits with a run scored. Action finished 1-for-2 with 2 RBI's.

The Rams will now host Purchase College on Saturday, April 19th at Noon in a Skyline Conference doubleheader. The game will mark Senior Day for Genova and senior third baseman Dallas Anderson (Melville, N.Y.).
