Clermont, Fla. - The Farmingdale State softball team went 1-1 on Tuesday afternoon at the NTC Softball Complex to stand at 2-2 overall. The Rams fell in their first game of the day to Alvernia 7-2, followed by a 5-4 win against Manhattanville.
In the game against Alvernia, Farmingdale was down 2-0 in the second inning before allowing another run in the third and three runs in the fifth. The Rams got back two runs in the top of the seventh but would fall 7-2, leaving 10 runners on base in the loss.
Against Manhattanville and down 1-0 after a homerun, Farmingdale State evened the score in the top of the fourth as freshman first baseman Tori Tedeschi (Levittown, N.Y.) scored on an error by the third baseman. The Rams added one more in the fifth with a sacrifice fly to right by Tedeschi to score junior outfielder Michelle Mongiello (Elmont, N.Y.) from third for the 2-1 lead.
Manhattanville jumped ahead 3-2 with two runs off two hits and an error in the bottom of the fifth. Farmingdale State's Michelle Monaco knocked in two runs with a single to recapture the lead, 4-3, scoring sophomore catcher Meagan Anderson (Patchogue, N.Y.) and junior outfielder Sam Johrden (Deer Park, N.Y.).
In the seventh, the Rams added an insurance run for the 5-3 advantage, which would be needed in the bottom of the inning as they allowed a run but held on for the win.
Monaco finished 2-for-3 with 2 RBI's and a walk and freshman second baseman Victoria D'Alessandro (Massapequa, N.Y.) went 2-for-2 at the plate. Junior pitcher Taylor Webb (West Babylon, N.Y.) improved to 2-0 over seven innings with six K's and just two walks.
With six games left to play in Florida, Farmingdale State next faces Lakeland College on Thursday, March 13th at 9:00 a.m. and Becker College at 3:00 p.m.
