Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with a 6-3 loss and 6-1 win against Hunter College on Thursday afternoon to improve to 7-9 overall. The Hawks dropped to 2-10 overall.
In game one, the Rams went up 1-0 on an RBI from senior third baseman Jennifer Jarczynski (West Babylon, N.Y.) to score freshman catcher Meagan Anderson (Patchogue, N.Y.) from third. Hunter tied it 1-1 in the top of the third, before Farmingdale State added another run in the bottom of the inning, an RBI single from sophomore first baseman Michelle Mongiello (Elmont, N.Y.) for the 2-1 lead.
Hunter scored three runs over the next two innings, on four hits and one error, to grab the 4-2 advantage and would hold Farmingdale State to just two hits the rest of the way to hold on for the 6-3 victory.
Junior shortstop Hillary Genova (Brentwood, N.Y.) finished 3-for-4 with one run scored, while Anderson was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
In game two, sophomore pitcher Taylor Webb (West Babylon, N.Y.) struck out a season-high 10 batters, allowing just four hits and two walks for her third win of the year (3-5). The Rams combined for 13 hits in the game.
Hunter scored their only run of the game in the first inning, before Farmingdale State tied the game with an RBI double to center from Jarczynski.
Four hits in the third would bring home two runs for the 3-1 Rams lead, and two more runs in the fourth would make it 5-1 Farmingdale State. Webb held the Hawks to three hits the rest of the way as the Rams ran away with the 6-1 win.
Genova and Anderson led the way again at the plate, both finishing 3-for-4 for the game, while Genova scored three runs and an RBI and Anderson scored two runs. Jarczynski went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Farmingdale State will now host Brooklyn College in a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday, March 30th at 1:00 p.m.
