Rams Split Doubleheader with Brooklyn College

Brooklyn, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Brooklyn College yesterday. The Rams fell 5-4 in the first game and rebounded with an 11-0 victory in game two.

In game one, Farmingdale State (9-5) broke the scoreless tie in the top of the fourth as senior first baseman Aubrey Walker (West Babylon, N.Y.) reached on a fielder choice that scored sophomore shortstop Hillary Genova (Brentwood, N.Y.). The Rams added a second run in the inning on an RBI single by freshman Lisa Bonacasa (Deer Park, N.Y.).

Brooklyn (5-4) responded with one run in the bottom of the fourth before a Genova sacrifice fly in the fifth scored senior right fielder Amanda Maass (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) and put Farmingdale State ahead 3-1.

Trailing 4-2 in the sixth, junior center fielder Kim Konklewski (Deer Park, N.Y.) and sophomore right fielder Meagan Cranston (Brooklyn, N.Y.) hit back-to-back two out RBI singles for the Bulldogs to tie the game at 4-4. Brooklyn led off the seventh inning with two consecutive singles before sophomore Tara Diesel (Bethpage, N.Y.) hit the game-winning RBI double. 

The Rams were led by Maass who was 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored. Genova and Bonacasa were each 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Diesel and freshman third baseman Maria Mantagas (Brooklyn, N.Y.) each had two hits for the Bulldogs. Sophomore pitcher Marie Oneto (Brooklyn, N.Y.) picked up the win after throwing a complete game and allowing two earned runs.

In game two, Farmingdale State jumped out to an early lead scoring four runs in the first and two in the second. The Rams added five runs in the fourth en route to an 11-0 victory.

Walker had two hits, two runs scored and 3 RBI for Farmingdale State, while Bonacasa was 2-for-3 including a homerun with 3 RBI and a run scored. Senior left fielder Rebecca Richman (West Islip, N.Y.) was 1-for-2 with a homerun and two runs batted in. Freshman pitcher Chelsea La Marca (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) improved to 2-1 on the season after throwing a complete game six hitter.

The Rams next will host Purchase in a Skyline Conference doubleheader on Saturday, March 24th at 12:00 p.m.
