Rams Drop Pair at NCAA Regionals

Salisbury, Md. - The Farmingdale State softball team lost two games in the double elimination tournament at the NCAA Regionals hosted by Salisbury University. The Rams finished the season with a 32-7 overall record.
In the first game against host school Salisbury University, Farmingdale State fell behind early allowing three first inning runs. Senior Shortstop Nicole Farber (Oakdale, N.Y.) led off the second with a single to right field for the Rams before Salisbury's Erika Brittingham (Georgetown, Del.) struck out the side.
The Sea Gulls went ahead 4-0 as they added a run on an RBI double in the bottom of the third inning. Neither team scored a run over the final four innings as Farmingdale State dropped the opening NCAA Regional game 4-0.
Brittingham earned the victory allowing only one hit and striking out 15 batters.
In the second game of the double elimination tournament, the Rams faced Rowan University. In the bottom of the fifth, freshman catcher Amanda Morelli (Bohemia, N.Y.) hit a two out single to left center before junior outfielder Kaitlin Keenan (West Islip, N.Y.) singled through the left side. Junior outfielder Rebecca Richman (West Islip, N.Y.) reached on an error as Morelli scored, putting Farmingdale State ahead 1-0.
Rowan responded with four runs in the next inning to take a 4-1 advantage heading into the bottom of the sixth. Farber and junior outfielder Madison Snyder (Medford, N.Y.) led off with back-to-back singles up the middle for the Rams. After a sacrifice bunt and an RBI groundout, Farmingdale cut the deficit to 4-2. Rowan's junior pitcher Jamie Minix (Clarksboro, N.J.) was able to force a pop out to end the inning.
The Rams were retired in the seventh and fell 4-2 to Rowan.
