2009 Softball Season Recap
Farmingdale, N.Y. - After finishing the regular season with an overall record of 30-4, the Farmingdale State softball team capped off their brilliant season by winning their first-ever Skyline Conference Championship. The Rams played in the NCAA Division III Tournament, at Ramapo College in the double-elimination Regional round. Farmingdale State dropped the first game 7-1 to Rowan College, before defeating Muhlenberg and Moravian in the next two games. In a second match-up against Rowan, the Rams were defeated 3-0.
The Rams, who finished 14-1 in Skyline Conference play, tied the school record with their current win total of 32.
Hope Zino and Heather Buckshaw anchored an outstanding pitching staff, as Farmingdale State led the Skyline Conference in Team Earned Run Average. Zino finished with a 15-1 record and a 1.04 ERA and struck out 146 batters in 101 innings. She now holds the school record for strikeouts in a season. Buckshaw finished with a 15-3 record and an ERA of 1.65.
Offensively, sophomore shortstop Nicole Farber batted .464 with a school record 13 homeruns. She led the team in RBI’s with 43 and held an incredible .955 slugging percentage. Freshman first baseman Aubrey Walker finished second in batting average at .452 and RBI’s with 38. Freshman centerfielder Kaitlin Keenan hit .439 with 3 homeruns, 32 RBI’s and a team-high 54 hits. Kristina Cirillo (.376), Rebecca Richman (.398), and Lauren Poplawski (.417) had very good offensive seasons.
The Rams should have continued success over the next few years, as their 18 player roster includes just two seniors and two juniors.
