Purchase, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State softball team improved to 2-3 overall with a doubleheader sweep at Purchase College on Friday, March 23rd. The Rams took game one 9-4, before scoring 11 runs in the second game for the 11-3 victory.
In the first game, Farmingdale scored six runs in the first inning on four walks, two hit batters and two singles and added three more runs to push forward for their first win of the season. Freshman Kimberly Corbett pitched a complete game, striking out nine batters and allowing just four hits and one earned run. Senior Gina Moscato (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville) finished with three hits, including two doubles, and two runs batted in.
Game two called for another Rams victory in the five-inning 11 run effort. Junior Amanda Sperling (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) scored a run in the first off a Moscato single, before freshman Kim Ferraiolo (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) used a triple to knock in two runs in the second inning. Six more runs in the third and one in the fourth would be enough to force the run rule for a second win.
Farmingdale State will now host Briarcliffe College for a non-league doubleheader on Tuesday, March 27th at 3:00 p.m. The Rams will then travel to play York (N.Y.) on Thursday, March 29th for a doubleheader at 3:30 p.m.
