Farmingdale, NY - The Farmingdale State softball team (7-15, 4-10) lost a doubleheader against Skyline opponent Manhattanville College (25-11, 14-0) this afternoon in Farmingdale, NY. Manhattanville junior pitcher Maggie Thomas (Malvern, PA) got the win in the first game allowing just four hits and one run in the 3-1 victory. Thomas also got the win in the second game allowing five hits and two run for a 6-2 win.
In game one, the Valiants scored in the first inning to take a quick 1-0 lead, before the Rams' senior shortstop Tiffany deBeaumont (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) scored in the fourth inning to tie the game up at 1-1. Manhattanville came back in the fifth with two runs as junior catcher Michele Ribeiro (West Hartford, CT) hit a two-RBI single down the left field line to score junior second-basemen Amanda Buonomo (Westbury, NY) to take the lead and sophomore shortstop Amanda Nonis (Brampton, ON) for the eventual game-winning run. Sophomore pitcher Jaclyn Buckshaw (Oakdale, NY/Connetquot) allowed seven hits in defeat for Farmingdale State.
In game two, the Valiants scored early again, taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Manhattanville increased their lead to 2-0 in the fourth before the Rams answered back in the bottom of the inning tying the game at 2-2 with the help of a two-out RBI single up the middle by sophomore outfielder Becky Santoriello (Seaford, NY/Island Trees). The Valiants bounced back in the fifth, scoring three unearned runs, to take the lead 5-2. Manhattanville's offense was lead by freshman first baseman Nicole Oliva (Hopewell Junction, NY) and Maggie Thomas, who both went 3-for-4 with one run scored each.
The Rams travel to Throggs Neck, NY on Friday, April 28th for a conference doubleheader against Maritime.
