Farmingdale, NY - The Farmingdale State softball team split a conference doubleheader with Old Westbury (6-6, 3-3 Skyline) to move to 6-10 overall, 4-5 in the Skyline today in Farmingdale, NY. Senior pitcher Lindsay Amato (North Babylon, NY) picked up the 2-1 win in first game for the visiting Panthers. Freshman Rachele Fischer (Medford, NY/Patchogue-Medford) pitched the second game, securing the 6-2 victory for the Rams.
The first game was scoreless through three innings, before Old Westbury's junior center fielder Katora Russell (East Hampton, NY) singled up the middle to score junior catcher Sheyra Veras (Bronx, NY) after she tripled to right field. The Panthers added a second run in the fifth as junior left fielder Nihal Boz's (Brooklyn, NY) doubled, scoring sophomore right fielder Elizabeth Weickum (Livingston Manor, NY) from first. Farmingdale got on the board in the sixth as junior second baseman Devan Weber (Huntington, NY/Huntington) bunt-singled to lead off the inning. Weber would later score on junior catcher Gina Moscato's (Hicksville, NY/Hicksville) single. Unfortunately, the inning ended with the Rams unable to convert on a first and second, one out situation. Sophomore Jacyln Buckshaw (Oakdale, NY/Connetquot) suffered the loss giving up one earned run on three hits and struck out seven.
In the second game, Old Westbury scored first off a bases-loaded walk in the third. In the bottom of the inning, Farmingdale took the lead, scoring two runs off a two-out, two-RBI single up the middle by senior shortstop Tiffany deBeaumont (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale). deBeaumont would finish 3-for-4 with 3 runs batted in. Jacyln Buckshaw went 2-for-3 with a run batted in and a run scored. Fischer pitched the complete game for the Rams' victory, giving up one earned run, three hits and struck out five. Panther's Lindsay Amato suffered the loss, giving up three earned runs on six hits while striking out six.
