Softball 2004 Season Recap
The 2004 Softball team improved drastically with 11 wins this season. With many first year players, the team built a great foundation for the future. On April 24th, the women secured Farmingdale’s second consecutive 2003-2004 President’s Cup victory after sweeping SUNY rival Old Westbury.
Individually, the team was led by four newcomers. Freshman catcher Gina Moscato was named First Team All-Skyline after leading the team with 33 RBI’s and 47 total bases. Gina batted .347 and finished fourth in the nation in RBI’s per game. Freshman shortstop Devan Weber was named Second Team All-Skyline. Weber led the nation in runs per game after scoring 41 times in 27 games. She also led the team in batting average (.434), stolen bases (16), walks (21) and hits (36). She provided outstanding defense throughout the season. Twin sisters Courtney and Ashley Kenney solidified Farmingdale’s lineup, each starting every game and hitting over .300. In addition, Ashley led the team with seven wins on the mound and Courtney led the team with 130 putouts. Freshmen Megan Newell (.400) and Johanna Lopez (.386) were major offensive contributors for Farmingdale.

Two Softball Players Named All-Conference
The Skyline All-Conference Selections were announced on April 30th as two of our softball student-athletes picked up honors. Freshman Gina Moscato (Hicksville, NY/Hicksville) was named First Team All-Skyline and Freshman Devan Weber (Huntington, NY/Huntington) was named Second Team All-Skyline. Gina is the starting catcher at Farmingdale. She finished the season with a .364 batting average over 23 games played. She also led the team in homeruns (2), doubles (9) and slugging percentage (.610). Devan is the starting shortstop for the Rams who finished with a .434 batting average in 27 games played. She led the team in runs scored (41), hits (36), walks (21), stolen bases (16) and on-base percentage (.547). As of the April 25th weekly NCAA rankings, she was ranked 2nd in Division III Softball for runs scored per game with 1.48.

Softball Ensures President’s Cup Win After Sweep Over Old Westbury

The Rams (11-13, 5-9 Skyline) swept conference rival Old Westbury (4-15, 2-12 Skyline) and ensured their second consecutive Farmingdale-Old Westbury President’s Cup win during a Skyline softball doubleheader played at Farmingdale State. Farmingdale won the first game 10-2 after five innings as Sharon Billips (Brooklyn, NY/John Jay) pitched a three-hitter allowing only two walks and improving her record to 3-0. Johanna Lopez (Brentwood, NY/East Islip) finished 2-for-2 for the Rams with a triple and 4 RBI’s.
The second game lasted seven innings with Farmingdale the victor 16-12. It was the Huntington natives who led the Rams to victory in this game. Devan Weber (Huntington, NY/Huntington) was 3-for-3 with two RBI’s, while twins Ashley and Courtney Kenney (Huntington, NY/Huntington) combined for 7 RBI’s. Ashley finished 2-for-3 with a triple, 2 RBI’s and 2 runs scored, while Courtney finished 3-for-5 with 5 RBI’s and was a homerun short of hitting a cycle. Billips picked up her fourth win on the mound for Farmingdale and still remains undefeated.
Old Westbury’s Carrie Jennings (Huntington, NY/Huntington) and Christina Squillante (Levittown, NY) both finished 4-for-4 in game two. Jennings stands at 4-7 on the mound after today’s games.
The Rams play tomorrow in the WIAC playoffs at St. Joseph’s College. They face New Jersey City at Noon and the winner plays in the Championship game at 2pm.

Softball Loses Doubleheader to King’s Point
Game 1: Farmingdale 0 King’s Point 8
Game 2: Farmingdale 3 King’s Point 20
The Rams (8-13, 3-9 Skyline) fell in both games of a conference doubleheader to King’s Point (18-13-1, 9-1 Skyline) with scores of 8-0 and 20-3. Both games ended after five innings in honor of the “mercy” rule.

Seventh Inning Rally Leads Rams to Victory

Farmingdale (8-11) belted a four run rally in the bottom of the seventh to grab a 10-9 win over Lehman College. Down by a run with two on and one out, Freshman Courtney Kenney (Huntington, NY/Huntington) ripped the game winning single over the left fielder to score Sharon Billips (Brooklyn, NY/John Jay) from second base and lead the Rams to their eighth win of the season. Billips started on the mound for the Rams, giving up only one run in her five innings pitched. Ashley Kenney (Huntington, NY/Huntington) picked up the win for Farmingdale after two relief innings. Devan Weber (Huntington, NY/Huntington) finished 3-for-4 with 2 runs and 2 RBI’s.

Softball Picks Up Two Wins Over St. Elizabeth’s

The Rams (7-11) picked up two wins on Sunday, April 18th defeating St. Elizabeth’s College (0-8). Farmingdale won game one 8-2 as Sharon Billips (Brooklyn, NY/John Jay) pitched a three-hitter and Ashley Kenney (Huntington, NY/Huntington) went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI’s. Johanna Lopez (Brentwood, NY/East Islip) was 3-for-3 with a double and three runs scored.
Gina Moscato (Hicksville, NY/Hicksville) knocked in the game winning run in the seventh inning of game two, to give the Rams a 6-5 win. A. Kenney picked up the win for Farmingdale as she pitched seven innings allowing only 6 hits and 3 walks. Meghan Newell (Huntington, NY/Huntington) hit 3-for-3 with an RBI for the Rams.
Farmingdale hosts Lehman College on Tuesday, April 20th at 4pm.

Manhattanville Comeback Sweeps Rams
Game 1: Manhattanville 12 Farmingdale 0
Game 2: Manhattanville 5 Farmingdale 3
The Manhattanville Valiants (5-11) swept Farmingdale State (5-11) today in a Skyline conference doubleheader 12-0 and 5-3. The first game was easily won by Manhattanville as they scored eight runs in the fifth to force the run rule. Michele Ribeiro (West Hartford, CT) went 3-for-4 for the Valiants with 2 RBI’s and 2 runs scored, while Tessa Odell (Dover Plains, NY) was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI’s and 2 runs scored.
Farmingdale led 3-2 in the second game until the top of the seventh inning, when the Valiants scored three runs to take the 5-3 lead. The Rams fought back on their last chance with the bases loaded, but could not convert for the win. Farmingdale’s Devan Weber (Huntington, NY/Huntington) and Courtney Kenney (Huntington, NY/Huntington) were both 2-for-4 with one run scored, Johanna Lopez (Brentwood, NY/East Islip) and Cassandra Hartmann (Sayville, NY/Emmaus) each picked up an RBI.
Manhattanville’s Margaret Thomas (Malvern, PA) improved to 5-9 this season with her two wins, combining for 12 strikeouts, 2 earned runs and just one walk. Farmingdale’s Ashley Kenney (Huntington, NY/Huntington) allowed only one walk and struck out four in her two games pitched.
The Rams next game is Wednesday, April 14th at King’s Point for a conference doubleheader starting at 3:30pm.

Softball Sweeps Brooklyn 15-4, 16-4

The Rams improved to 3-9 today as they swept Brooklyn College in a non-conference doubleheader. Gina Moscato (Hicksville, NY/Hicksville) and Meghan Newell both went 3-for4 with 4 RBI's each for Farmingdale as they led the team to a 15-4 victory in game one. Sharon Billips (Brooklyn, NY/John Jay) pitched five innings allowing only three hits to improve her record to 2-0.
In game two, the Rams' Ashley Kenney (Huntington, NY/Huntington) struck out nine batters to lead the team to another run-rule victory 16-4. Kenney allowed only two earned runs in her five innings pitched. Courtney Kenney (Huntington, NY/Huntington) hit 2-for-3 with four RBI's for Farmingdale, while Meghan Newell was 3-for-4 with 4 RBI's. Cassandra Hartmann (Sayville, NY/Emmaus) was perfect 3-for-3 with 2 RBI’s for the Rams.
Farmingdale hosts Mt. St. Mary's College on Saturday, April 3rd in a Skyline Conference doubleheader starting at noon.

Farmingdale Picks Up First Win in Conference Doubleheader

The Rams (1-9) split their conference doubleheader against Mt. St. Vincent’s with a 24-6 win and a 9-8 loss. Devan Weber (Huntington, NY/Huntington) went 3-for-3 with four runs in the first game. In the second game, the Rams scored four runs in the top of sixth inning, but fell short after the game was called because of darkness. Farmingdale takes on Brooklyn College at home on Tuesday, March 30th at 3pm.
