Rams Qualify for Championship Events in First Outdoor Meet

The Farmingdale State Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track team traveled to Newport News, Virginia for the Christopher Newport "Captains" Classic on Saturday, April 2nd. Due to the inclement weather, most of the field events were moved indoors, while the running events were delayed four hours with many events cancelled. Despite the conditions, three individuals and one relay team qualified for the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship’s on May 19th and 20th at Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts. One individual also qualified for the NCAA Division III National Championships. The National Championship’s will be held at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa on May 26-28.

Freshman Shane Smith placed 1st and broke the school record in the pole vault with a vault of 14’6”, qualifying him for the ECAC’s. He just missed qualifying for the NCAA’s by 6 inches, 15’2” is the National qualifying minimum.

Freshman Andre Brown, who just won the Division III Indoor National Championship in the Long Jump, jumped 23’1” to place second in the Long Jump, qualifying him for both the NCAA and ECAC Championships. Andre is now 5th on Farmingdale’s All-Time Long Jump list.

Freshman Reuben Hairston jumped 21’4 ˝” to also qualify for the ECAC’s.

The 4x100m Relay team of Kenny Adams, Nyakeh Charley, Reggie Routier and Ian Morgan placed 5th in 44.09. This is an ECAC qualifying time.

Freshman David Casillas placed seventh in the javelin with a throw of 109’ 9 ˝”.

The Rams will travel to Princeton University in Princeton, New Jersey for the Sam Howell Invitational on April 8th and 9th.
