Jelani is a 2008 graduate of Copiague High School, where he was a two-year team Captain. He was a 2-time Indoor MVP and once MVP Outdoor. He received All-League honors for the 110m High Hurdles, Triple Jump and Long Jump, and was All-County in the Triple Jump. He is the son of Diane and Cecil Bledman.
