Rams Capture Team Title at NYU Team Challenge
- Men Finish 1st, Women Finish 6th at Prestigious Meet -
Manhattan, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's indoor
track team scored 103 points to capture the team title at the NYU
Team Challenge on Saturday, February 19th at the New Balance Track
and Field Center. Nine of the top 10 teams in the East were
assembled by NYU to compete in this Division III event, including
NYU, Haverford, Rochester, RPI, Oneonta, Johns Hopkins, Muhlenberg
and Swarthmore.
The men's meet went down to the final event, as sophomore John Verderber (Aquebogue, N.Y./Riverhead) won the Pole Vault with a jump of 4.35m (14' 3") to put the Rams in the lead over Rochester (100 points). This was a true team effort with three first places, five second places and four third places.
The women's team won five events to place 6th at the meet. Sophomore Corine Magee (Mastic, N.Y./William Floyd) won both the 60m Dash (7.87) and 200m Dash (25.60). Corine's 200m time breaks her school record for the fifth time. She also anchored the winning 4x200m Relay team in a blazing anchor leg of 25.14 seconds.
Sophomore Faustine Chukwuezi (Central Islip, N.Y./Central Islip) won the Triple Jump with a leap of 11.41m (37' 5") for an NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Faustine also won the Long Jump with a season best jump of 5.08m (16' 6"). Sophomore Vicky Mandat (West Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) qualified for the ECAC Championships in the 200m with a time of 26.76.
The Rams who qualified will next travel to the ECAC Championships on March 4th and 5th at the New Balance Track & Field Center in New York, N.Y.
