Farmingdale State - 7, St. Joseph's - 2
Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's tennis team defeated St. Joseph's, 7-2, in their Skyline Conference opener Saturday afternoon. The Rams improved to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the Skyline, while the Golden Eagles fell to 0-2, 0-1.
In singles competition, Farmingdale State won five of the six matches. Sophomore Justin Vijungco (Forest Hills, N.Y.) earned a 6-0, 6-2 win in first singles, while senior Alex Bessarabov (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) won 6-0, 6-0 in the third position. Junior Steven Ferrantello (Dix Hills, N.Y.) earned a 6-3, 6-1 victory in fourth singles, while junior's Judd Bahoui (Long Beach, N.Y.) (6-0, 6-4) and Bradley Smith (Mineola, N.Y.) (6-2, 6-0) picked up wins in #5 and #6 singles, respectively.
In doubles, Bessarabov and Ferrantello teamed for an 8-1 victory in the #2 position and Bahoui and Smith paired up for an 8-0 win in third doubles.
After a pair of home scrimmages against Nassau CC (April 2) and Suffolk CC (April 3), the Rams will host Brooklyn College in a non-conference match on Saturday, April 6th at 1:00 p.m.
