Staten Island, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's soccer team fell to NYU-Poly on penalty kicks in the Skyline Conference Quarterfinal round of the playoffs at the College of Staten Island.
With the Rams (8-10-1) and Fighting Blue Jays (10-10) tied three apiece in penalty kicks, Farmingdale State junior goalkeeper Angelo Viteritti (Northport, N.Y.) came out of net and gave his team a 4-3 advantage. Sophomore forward Andres Torres (Weston, Fla.) scored on his attempt as NYU-Poly forced a 4-4 tie through five rounds of penalty kicks. After a Rams miss wide right, senior midfielder Omar Guerrero (Austin, Tex.) netted the game-winner for the Fighting Blue Jays.
In a defensive game, Farmingdale State outshot NYU-Poly 16-12 but the Fighting Blue Jays held a 5-2 corner kick advantage.
Viteritti had four saves, while sophomore goalie Brendan Finn (New Canaan, Conn.) made seven saves in the victory.
