Ferguson Tallies Triple Overtime Game-Winner as Hartwick Defeats FSC

Hartwick - 10, Farmingdale State - 9 (3OT)

Oneonta, N.Y. - With 3:15 remaining in triple overtime, Hartwick freshman midfielder Dylan Ferguson (Baldwin, N.Y.) scored the game-winning goal to give the Hawks a 10-9 non-conference win over Farmingdale State this afternoon. The FSC men's lacrosse team dropped to 2-2 overall, while Hartwick earned their first win of the season and improved 1-1.

The Rams started quickly as they registered the first six goals of the game. Freshman attack Jake Wandle (Rocky Point, N.Y.) and senior midfielder James Ragland (Seaford, N.Y.) tallied unassisted goals before junior attack Jake Satterley (West Babylon, N.Y.) recorded back-to-back scores to put Farmingdale State ahead 4-0. Junior midfielder Dylan Fitzgerald (Farmingdale, N.Y.) registered FSC's fifth goal off the feed from junior attack AJ Sandorfi (Lynbrook, N.Y.) and Satterley followed with his third of the game to put FSC in front, 6-0. Hartwick junior midfielder Nick Couvaris (Seaford, N.Y.) would score the final goal of the first quarter as they entered the second down, 6-1.

Leading 6-2 with 8:34 left in the second quarter, Sandorfi scored from Fitzgerald to give the Rams a five-goal lead, 7-2.

Still trailing by five, 9-4, with eight minutes left in the third quarter, Couvaris and senior defender Garrison Wojtas (Hauppauge, N.Y.) tallied back-to-back goals to cut the Hartwick deficit to 9-6.

In the fourth, Hawks' freshman attack Kainen Francis-Thompson (Hogansburg, N.Y.) recorded all three goals to knot the game at 9-9 and send the game into overtime.

After a scoreless first OT, nine shots were attempted in the second overtime period. Satterley recorded the first shot of the period before Hartwick tallied four straight shots. Two were saved by Rams senior goalkeeper Dan Wood (East Meadow, N.Y.) and one hit the post. The Rams had four more shots before the end of the period but were unable to find the net.

In triple overtime, Hawks' freshman midfielder Tyler Coleman (Round Lake, N.Y.) won the initial faceoff as sophomore midfielder Alec Lind (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) picked up the ground ball to gain possession. With 3:15 on the clock, sophomore midfielder Tim Watson (Wrentham, Mass.) set up Ferguson for the game-winner to give Hartwick the 10-9 triple overtime victory.

Satterley led the way for Farmingdale State as he registered a game-high four goals to go along with three ground balls. Ragland finished with two goals and two ground balls, while both Sandorfi and Fitzgerald had one goal and one assist each. Junior midfielder John McMahon (West Babylon, N.Y.) went 19-for-24 on faceoffs and picked up a school record 19 ground balls in the loss.

For Hartwick, Francis-Thompson tallied three goals and one assist for four points and Wojtas produced a goal and a team-high 12 ground balls.

Wood finished with a season-high 20 saves, while junior goalie CJ Alesandrini (Schenectady, N.Y.) stopped 15 shots in the win.

The Rams next host Sage for a non-conference game on Tuesday, March 12th at 4:00 p.m.
