New York, N.Y. - Four-time defending champion Montclair State has been selected to capture the 2013 Skyline men's lacrosse title in voting conducted by the league's seven head coaches. The Rams were selected to finish in third place.
MSU was 6-0 in conference play for the fifth time in the past six seasons and recorded a 17-10 win over Kean in the finals of the 2012 Skyline Championship. The Red Hawks return senior attackman Jack Skeels, a first-team All-Conference selection a year ago who amassed 32 goals, 18 assists and three game-winning tallies.
Montclair State received six first-place votes and compiled 36 points, while Kean placed second in the voting with 28 points. The Cougars have advanced to the Skyline title match in four of the last five years and will be led by junior attack Richard Cheifitz, who paced the team in goals (40), assists (21) and points (61) in 2012 while earning honorable mention All-America distinction.
Farmingdale State garnered one first-place vote with 26 overall points, followed by Richard Stockton (24), Maritime (15), Mount Saint Mary (12) and Mount Saint Vincent (6).
The semifinals of the four-team 2013 Skyline Championship will be held on Wednesday, April 24, with the finals scheduled for Saturday, April 27.
