Apr 10, 2007

Last week in the Rams game against Centenary College, senior captain and midfielder Ryan LaFlare (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) became Farmingdale State's all-time leading scorer in men's lacrosse with a four goal effort in the 16-8 victory. LaFlare's first goal of the day against the Cyclones was the record breaker at number 103, breaking the previous record holder Matt Baglietto's feat of 102 goals in a career.

LaFlare began his career at Farmingdale in 2004 where his first season consisted of 11 goals and five assists for the Rams, while also seeing time as a face-off man, winning 49-of-84 face-offs during his freshman campaign. He improved to 27 goals and 10 assists during his second year becoming more of a threat on the offensive end as well as the defensive end, accumulating a team-best 100 ground balls.

In 2006, LaFlare tallied his best yet, 47 goals and six assists, nearly missing the single-season scoring record of 55 goals. He scored two game-winners and eight man-up goals last year, to put his three season total going into his senior year at 85 goals and 21 assists.

LaFlare has started the season off strong with 28 goals and seven assists to put his career total at 113 goals and 28 assists to date, with five games remaining in regular season play. He has also picked up a team-leading 64 ground balls from his midfield position, scored six man-up goals and had one game-winning goal.

LaFlare and the men's lacrosse team will face Merchant Marine tonight in Kings Point, N.Y. in a Skyline Conference game at 7:30 p.m.
