Winters Makes 23 Saves in Tough Rams Loss

Throggs Neck, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team fell to Maritime College 9-8 tonight in a Skyline Conference game in Throggs Neck, N.Y. The Rams fall to 3-7 overall, 3-2 in the Skyline with the loss, while Maritime improved to 4-4, 2-2 in the conference.

After trailing the Privateers 2-1 after the first period, Farmingdale played even with Maritime as both teams scored two goals in the second for a 4-3 halftime score. The Privateers notched four straight in the third to take an 8-3 lead and the Rams junior Chris Fiorenzo (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) tallied his only goal of the night to cut the score to 8-4.

In the final period, Farmingdale scored two in the first five minutes for an 8-6 showing on the scoreboard. Maritime responded with a goal by Max Ferguson with 8:27 left to play. Rams senior Ryan LaFlare (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) and junior Joe Meola (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) each found the back of the net once in the final three minutes, but Ferguson's final goal of the night would hold on as the game-winner.

LaFlare led Farmingdale with three goals and one assist, while Meola tallied two goals and one assist. Senior goalkeeper Kevin Winters (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) finished with 23 saves, including 10 in the third period.

Ferguson was the leader for Maritime with three goals. Lawrence Montreuil had three goals and one assist. Joseph Fasano finished with 14 saves in net for the win.

The Rams will now travel to Kings Point, N.Y. for a conference game against Merchant Marine on Tuesday, April 10th at 7:30 p.m.
