Farmingdale, N.Y. - Farmingdale State fell 13-12 to Montclair State today in Skyline Conference men's lacrosse action in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Rams drop to 3-6 overall, 3-1 in the Skyline, while the Red Hawks improve to 4-3 overall, 3-1 in the conference,
At the half, the score was tied 5-5 and Montclair scored four straight in the third period to take the 9-5 lead off two goals each by senior John Della Pesca (Fair Lawn, N.J./Fair Lawn) and sophomore Mario Passafiume (Boonton, N.J./Mountain Lakes). Farmingdale cut the score to 9-7 before the start of the fourth with goals from freshman Jon Trama (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) and junior Jeremy Goohs (Merrick, N.Y./Calhoun).
In the final period, the Rams offset another two goals by the Red Hawks to make it 11-10 on two goals from senior Ryan LaFlare (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst), one goal from sophomore Anthony Jacobi (Jericho, N.Y./Syosset) and two assists from sophomore Kevin Sharkey (Bellmore, N.Y./Mepham). Montclair junior Bryan Klimchak (Clark, N.J./AL Johnson) responded with the final two goals and the eventual game-winner for a 13-11 advantage. Jacobi and LaFlare added another goal each but time ran out before Farmingdale could complete the comeback.
Senior goalkeeper Kevin Winters (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) made 17 saves in defeat for Farmingdale State. Montclair sophomore goalkeeper Thomas Bowers (Hamburg, N.J./Pope John XVIII) finished with 21 stops for the victory.
LaFlare led the Rams with four goals, while junior Joe Meola (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) finished with five assists.
Farmingdale State will travel to face Maritime College in another conference game on Wednesday, April 4th at 7:00 p.m.
