Cullen and Meola Each Net Two in Defeat

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Junior Joe Meola (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) and senior Mike Cullen (Merrick, N.Y./Calhoun) each netted two goals for Farmingdale State (0-2) in today's 20-5 men's lacrosse loss to Plattsburgh State (1-0) at John J. Burns Park in Massapequa, N.Y. Meola also added an assist.

The Rams fell behind early as Tom Spencer scored the opening goal at 13:49 in the first quarter, before freshman Luke Weidlin (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) and sophomore Matt Billia (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) scored one each to make it 3-0. Meola scored his first goal with two seconds left in the first, ending the quarter with a score of 3-1.

Plattsburgh scored six unanswered goals in the second and third quarters, before Meola stopped their streak with an unassisted goal with 9:12 left in the third and then assisted Kyle Buchberg's first tally of the season with four minutes left in the quarter.

The Cardinals scored the next 9-of-11 goals. Farmingdale's Cullen scored the Rams final two goals.

Plattsburgh sophomore Matt Billia (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) and junior Frank Sangiovanni (Hungtington, N.Y./Huntington) each finished with four goals and one assists. Sangiovanni also picked up eight ground balls.

Meola led the team in scoring along with eight ground balls. Senior Kevin Winters (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) made nine saves in his 30 minutes of play, followed by Danny Keegan (Commack, N.Y./Commack) with five saves and Val Stauder (Patchogue-Medford, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) saved three shots.
