Rams Fall in Double Overtime at Yeshiva

New York, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team fell on the road last night, 88-80, to Skyline opponent Yeshiva University. The Rams now stand at 9-9 on the season, 9-4 in the Skyline Conference.

The Maccabees (8-10, 7-7 Skyline) jumped ahead early, opening up a 25-17 lead with 11:39 remaining in the first half. A three-point basket by senior guard Terrance Howard (Queens, N.Y./Cardozo) off the pass from Tymel Ambrose (Brooklyn, N.Y./Grady), cut Farmingdale's deficit to 26-22 at the 6:24 mark. The Rams scored on their last three possessions and went into halftime with a 38-37 advantage. Farmingdale State shot 52% from the field in the first half.

Sophomore guard Omer Haim (Rishon LeZion, Israel/Gymnasia Realit) hit a three-pointer to extend Yeshiva's lead to 54-47 with 11:55 remaining. The Rams countered with an 8-0 run spanning the next 4:11 to regain the lead. Farmingdale trailed 67-63 with under a minute remaining, until Howard hit a layup, pulling the Rams within two points. After a timeout, Yeshiva turned the ball over, giving the Rams a chance to tie or take the lead. Junior guard Shahee Martin (Queens, N.Y./West Hempstead) forced overtime as he hit a jump shot with 10 seconds remaining in regulation.

In the first overtime, the Rams trailed by four until junior forward Nikita Davis (Brooklyn, N.Y./Telecommunication) scored on a layup and Yeshiva turned the ball over on the next possession. Davis tied the game at 73-73 on a jumper with 26 seconds remaining. Sophomore forward Chen Biron (Kfar Saba, Israel/Katzanelson) missed a three point attempt for the Maccabees with two seconds on the clock, sending the game into a second overtime.

Yeshiva opened the second overtime on a 7-0 run, taking an 80-73 lead. The Rams would pull within four points with under a minute to play, but eventually fell 88-80.

Farmingdale was led by Davis who has a team-high 22 points and six rebounds. Martin had 16 points, while junior forward Andre Martin (Bronx, N.Y./Evander Childs) pitched in scoring 15 and had nine boards. Ambrose had a game-high nine assists for the Rams.

Senior guard Martin Leibovich had a double-double for the Maccabees with 25 points and 14 rebounds, while Biron had 21 points, hitting five three-pointers.

Farmingdale State will travel to Maritime for a Skyline Conference game on Saturday, February 6th at 4:00 p.m.
