Rams Hold on For Victory over NYU-Poly

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team picked up their third conference victory tonight with a 79-74 victory over NYU-Poly. The Rams now stand at 3-6 overall, 3-1 in the Skyline, while the Fighting Blue Jays drop to 2-6, 0-3 with the loss.

Junior forward Andre Martin (Bronx, N.Y./Evander Childs) led Farmingdale in the first half, scoring 10 of his 12 total points to give the Rams a 35-22 advantage at the break. The Rams held the lead to double digits until the 3:53 mark, when NYU-Poly used a 14-1 run over a 2:39 span to cut their deficit to just four points.

A free throw from junior guard Tymel Ambrose (Brooklyn, N.Y./Grady) and two from junior guard Shahee Martin (Queens, N.Y./West Hempstead) put the Rams back up by seven, 73-66, before sophomore guard Eddie Ortiz (Brooklyn, N.Y.) hit a three-pointer for NYU-Poly to cut the lead back down to four, 73-69.

Two free throws from senior guard Terrence Howard (Queens, N.Y./Cardozo) gave Farmingdale a six-point cushion, but with 19 seconds to go NYU-Poly saw a three-pointer from sophomore guard Eric Southworth (Dutch Harbor, Alaska) and a fast break layup from freshman guard Darian Crosby (Denver, Colo.) to make the score 75-74 Rams with eight seconds on the clock.

Farmingdale got the ball to Shahee Martin and he would hit 4-of-4 free throws to secure the 79-74 victory. Martin finished the game perfect from the free throw line and led the Rams with 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Junior forward Nikita Davis (Brooklyn, N.Y./Telecommunication) also recorded a double-double for Farmingdale with 13 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks. Ambrose dished off eight assists and grabbed seven rebounds. Freshman guard Ricco Oliver (Brooklyn, N.Y./Boys and Girls) posted 14 points.

NYU-Poly was led by junior foward Anthony Mottola (Brookyln, N.Y.) with a game-high 20 points and 14 rebounds, while junior forward Jason Bruckner (Littleton, Colo.) also scored a game-high 20 points. Freshman guard Myles Hinchcliffe (Flower Mound, Texas) was the third in double figures with 11 points and a team-high four assists.

The Rams will now face Bard College on Saturday, January 9th at 6:00 p.m. The game will be played off-campus at Nassau Community College.
