Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team advances to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Division III Tournament after defeating MIT tonight, 67-61, in a second round game played at Rhode Island College in Providence, R.I. The Rams will now face Bridgewater State (Mass.) in the Sectional Round game on Friday, March 13th.

In the first, MIT held a seven point lead, 22-15, before Farmingdale used an 18-4 run to close out the half and take a 33-26 advantage into the locker room. Senior guard Damien Santana (Brooklyn, N.Y./Grady) scored 20 points in the first, hitting 4-of-5 from long range, while Jimmy Bartolotta scored 16 for the Engineers.

The second half called for a 7-0 run by MIT to tie the score at 45-45 with 11:36 left to play and a three-pointer by Jamie Karraker gave the Engineers a three point advantage, 48-45. Bradley Gampel responded with a layup on the other end, 49-48 Engineers lead, but it would be the last lead they held as Farmingdale would score 12 of the next 14 points to make it 61-54 Rams with 4:53 remaining in the game.

MIT cut the deficit back down to three, 61-58, with 2:28 on the clock, but senior guard Joe Cammarata (Levittown, N.Y./MacArthur) retaliated with a layup, 63-58. Karraker hit another three to make it 63-61 Farmingdale State, but junior forward Mike Campbell (Bronx, N.Y./Samuel Gompers) sank two crucial free throws with 33 seconds left, followed by two free throws by Cammarata, to secure the victory and their first-ever ticket to the Sweet 16 of the Tournament.
