Santana Becomes All-Time Scoring Leader on Senior Night

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Senior guard Damien Santana
(Brooklyn, N.Y./Grady) became the All-Time leading scorer in
Farmingdale State history tonight as he surpassed his former
teammates record with 9:18 remaining in the second half. The Rams
trailed by 10 points at the break, before using a 16-5 run early in
the second to take their first and final lead of the game. Santana
capped off the run as he drained a three-pointer with 9:49 left to
play, putting his team up by one and tying the school record of
1,773 points (held by Kenny McMillan, 2002-06). Just 31 seconds
later, Santana sank a free throw to mark his place atop the record
books. He finished the game holding 1,783 career points.
After Santana put his team up by one, the Rams increased their lead to 74-58 with 4:29 on the clock. Purchase made a final run to come within four, 80-76, with 51 seconds left. Another Santana three and two free throws by senior guard Joe Cammarata (Levittown, N.Y./MacArthur) would secure the victory. The win was Farmingdale's 18th straight, improving their record to 22-2, 16-1 in Skyline Conference play and clinched the top seed for the upcoming Skyline Conference Playoffs.
Tonight's game was the final home game of the regular season for
seniors Cammarata, Santana, Davon Jackson (New York, N.Y./Rice) and
Erastus Shannon (Amityville, N.Y./Copiague). All four scored in
double figures for the night. Santana had a game-high 23 points and
10 rebounds, Shannon had 19 points and 10 rebounds, Cammarata had
16 points and three steals, and Jackson had 11 points, a game-high
14 rebounds and four assists. Rounding out the scoring was junior
forward Dan Phillips (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) with 14 points.
High scorers for Purchase were sophomore forward Marvin Billups (Chester, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) with 21 points, senior guard Jerrell Lewis (Brooklyn, N.Y./New Hampton Prep) with 17 points, sophomore forward Corey Orgias (Highland Mills, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) with 11 points and a game-high 14 rebounds, and sophomore guard Justin Walters (Tarrytown, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) with 12 points and five steals.
The Rams will wrap up the regular season at the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday, February 21st at 1:00 p.m. The next home game will be the Skyline Semifinals on Thursday, February 26th, time TBA.
