Smiles Wins 100th Game as Rams Defeat NYCCT
Farmingdale State - 77, City Tech - 62
Farmingdale, N.Y. - Fifth year head coach Erik Smiles won his 100th game tonight, as the Rams defeated visiting City Tech 77-62 in non-conference men's basketball action. Farmingdale State now holds a 17-2 overall record, winning 13 straight games, while Tech dropped to an even 10-10. Early in the game, City Tech led 6-2 before the Rams went on a 19-0 run to take the 25-6 edge and never looked back, leading 32-19 at the half and continuing on to help Coach Smiles to his milestone victory.
Coach Smiles, who is only 30 years old, now holds a career coaching record of 100-33 (a .752 winning percentage) over his five seasons at the helm of Farmingdale's bench. He has led the Rams to two Skyline Conference Championships ('05-'06, '07-'08) and has received six Coach of the Year awards.
Farmingdale State was led tonight by senior forward Erastus Shannon (Amityville, N.Y./Copiague) with 17 points and 15 rebounds and junior forward Mike Campbell (Bronx, N.Y./Samuel Gompers) with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Senior guard Damien Santana (Brooklyn, N.Y./Grady) finished with 16 points and senior guard Joe Cammarata (Levittown, N.Y./MacArthur) had 13 points, including 3-for-3 from downtown.
City Tech had three players in double figures, led by senior guard Jamaal Hall (Brooklyn, N.Y./Benjamin Banneker) with a game-high 21 points and six assists. A former Ram, senior forward Ryan Phillip (Brooklyn, N.Y./Nazareth Regional), totaled 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds, and sophomore forward Gabriel Davis (Brooklyn, N.Y./Athens Drive) had 15 points.
The Rams will now travel to play Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y. in a Skyline Conference game on Wednesday, February 4th at 8:00 p.m.
