Rams Ranked Third in the Atlantic Region 

Indianapolis, Ind. - The NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Committee released its first 2008 Regional Poll on Wednesday, February 13th. Farmingdale State men's basketball is ranked third in the Atlantic Region. The Rams are on a 13-game winning streak and now hold four Top-10 Division III National Rankings.

The Rams are currently 17-4 overall this season and are atop the Skyline Conference with a 13-1 record. In scoring offense, the team ranks 4th in the Nation averaging 89.9 points per game and is 8th in the Nation for scoring margin (+15.0). On the boards, Farmingdale State takes a 3rd in the Nation spot for rebounding margin, with a +10.0 advantage.

Junior forward Erastus Shannon (Amityville, N.Y./Copiague) is shooting 63.5-percent from the field this season, which places him 8th in the Nation.

After starting the season with a 4-4 record, Farmingdale State has been unstoppable, winning 13 straight and outscoring opponents by an average of 26 points per game. Also in those 13 games, they have shot 50.9-percent from the field while holding their opponents to a 39.6-percent shooting percentage.

Junior guard Damien Santana (Brooklyn, N.Y./Grady), who just recently eclipsed the 1,000-point plateau on January 19th, is leading the team with 21.2 points per game. Santana, the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year in 2005-06, has been named the Skyline Player of the Week four times this season. This week he was also named to the Team of the Week after averaging 24.5 points, 4.5 assists, four steals, and three rebounds in two games. He had 20 points and seven assists in a win over Polytechnic, and notched his ninth 20-point game of the season with 29 points in an 81-55 win against SUNY-Maritime.

Shannon, a transfer from Cobleskill, is second on the team in scoring with 13.3 points per game and leads the team with 8.2 rebounds per game and 29 blocks. He shoots 62-percent from the field, leading the conference, and shoots 72-percent at the free throw line.

Senior guard Peter Lipka (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) is the third Ram averaging in double digits at 11.3 points per game. He is closing in on the 1,000-point mark, with just 13 points to go. Lipka, who led the Nation in three-point field goal percentage in 2005-06, is shooting .455 from long range this season and leading the conference.

Coach Erik Smiles and the team has four games remaining in regular season play. The Skyline Conference Tournament begins on Tuesday, February 26th (the Quarterfinals), with all games to be played at the highest seed. The Semifinals will be held on Thursday, February 28th and the Championship game will be held on Saturday, March 1st, 2008.
