Farmingdale Lights Up Scoreboard Against the Mount
Farmingdale State - 113, Mount Saint Mary - 80
Newburgh, N.Y. – Farmingdale junior forward Erastus
Shannon (Amityville, N.Y.) scored 17 points, leading seven Rams in
double figures, as they routed Mount Saint Mary College, 113-80, in
Skyline Conference action Saturday afternoon. Farmingdale moved to
10-4 overall and 7-1 against league opponents, while Mount Saint
Mary dropped to 8-7 overall and 5-3 in Skyline play.
Back-to-back three-pointers from Farmingdale junior Damien Santana
(Brooklyn, N.Y.) and senior Peter Lipka (Shelton, Conn.) staked the
Rams to an early 15-8 lead just six minutes into the game. The
Mount answered right back, however, as junior Dave Canazon
(Middletown, N.Y.) hit a triple and junior Alex Kuchar (Rutherford,
N.J.) converted a three-point play to bring the Blue Knights back
within one. The Rams took back their seven point lead with a quick
6-0 run, capped by a jumper from senior Warren McAllister (Far
Rockaway, N.Y.).
The Rams would push the lead to as many as eight in the next five
minutes. Trailing 28-20 with seven minutes to play, MSMC junior
Chris Harrison (Baldwin, N.Y.) made good on a three-point play to
cut the gap to five. Kuchar generated a steal on the next
Farmingdale possession and converted an unassisted lay-up to make
the score 28-25, forcing the Rams to take a thirty-second
time-out.
Out of the time-out, junior Joe Cammarata (Levittown, N.Y.)
drilled a three-pointer to push the lead back to six. After a
missed lay-up at the other end, Lipka canned a three to make it a
nine point cushion. Lipka and Cammarata then hit back-to-back
lay-ups after empty MSMC possessions to widen the gap to thirteen.
Finally, Shannon capped the 12-0 run with a lay-up in the low post
to make the score 40-25.
Overall, Farmingdale closed the first half on a 23-5 run and never
looked back. They never led by fewer than nineteen points in the
second half and pushed the lead to as many as thirty-four before
finishing the game with a thirty-three point advantage.
Shannon completed his seventh double-double of the year, pulling
down 10 boards to go along with his 17 points. Santana, Lipka, and
junior Davon Jackson (New York, N.Y.) each had 15 points, while
sophomore Daniel Phillips (Baldwin, N.Y.) had 14 and McAllister had
13. Sophomore Charles Vasser (Bronx, N.Y.) was the seventh Ram in
double figures with 10 points and also picked up 6 assists.
For the Mount, Kuchar led all scorers with 21 points and freshman
Matt Weinberger (Washingtonville, N.Y.) poured in 16 points in
addition to his 7 assists. Freshman Tim Morris (Greenwich, N.Y.)
scored 12 points and was the leading rebounder for the Blue Knights
with 7. MSMC was out-rebounded 54-24 in the game and the Rams
nearly had more offensive rebounds (23) than the Blue Knights had
total rebounds.
The Rams were unconscious from behind the arc, hitting 12-of-20
attempts (60-percent) in the game and pushing their overall
field-goal percentage to 54.7-percent. They faired very well at the
free-throw line as well, hitting 19-of-22 (86.4-percent) tries. The
Blue Knights shot 42.9-percent from the field, but just
34.6-percent from behind the arc.
With losses in four of their last five, Mount Saint Mary continues
their Skyline schedule with a trip to St. Joseph’s–Long
Island on Wednesday, January 23. The game is scheduled to start at
7:00 p.m. Farmingdale hosts Yeshiva on January 24 beginning at 8:00
p.m.
