Bench Gives Rams the Edge over NJCU

Farmingdale, NY The Rams improved to 6-2 overall today with an 83-78 victory, as the bench posted 42 points to NJCU's 18 to grab the edge over New Jersey City (5-4) today in a non-conference men's basketball game in Farmingdale, NY.

Farmingdale led by 10 points at halftime and by as much as 18 in the second, before sophomore Dana John (Hillside, NJ/Pocono Mountain East (PA)) sparked a 15-0 run for NJCU over a four-minute span and cut the deficit to three, 76-73, with 2:19 remaining in the game. The Rams would hold on with a three-pointer and three free-throws in the final minutes, to take the 83-78 victory over the Gothic Knights.

Four players finished in double digits for Farmingdale, led by sophomore Damien Santana (Brooklyn, NY/Grady) with 19 points and four assists. Junior Peter Lipka (Shelton, CT/Shelton) hit four three's and finished with 14 points. Senior Sean McCabe (Bellmore, NY/W.C. Mepham) had 13 points and nine boards, while junior Rich Riss (Tarrytown, NY/Archbishop Stepinac) contributed 12 points. Freshman Shane Denully (Bronx, NY/Our Saviour Lutheran) dished out a game-high seven assists to go with four points over the final minutes.

For NJCU, John had a game-high 25 points, while senior teammate Abraham Williams (Jersey City, NJ/Lincoln) had 17 points, nine rebounds and three blocks. Senior Alex Mirabel (Jersey City, NJ/Dickinson) finished with 12 points, three assists and two blocks.

The Rams will be back in action in 2007 as they travel to Embry-Riddle University for the Carrabba's Shootout. They will play Alice Lloyd on January 5th at 6:00pm and then the consolation or championship game will be played on January 6th at 6:00/8:00pm.
