Rams Selected as Preseason Favorite in Men's Basketball Coaches Poll
Nov 17, 2006

Farmingdale State College, which captured its first Skyline Conference championship while advancing to the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament last season, has been selected as the preseason favorite in the Skyline Conference men's basketball coaches' poll.

Four different teams received first-place votes. In addition to Farmingdale (four), both Manhattanville and Stevens received three first-place votes while St. Joseph's received one.

The Rams, who went 23-6 overall and 12-2 in Skyline Conference play last season under head coach Erik Smiles, will look to repeat despite losing two-time Skyline Player of the Year Kenny McMillan and Skyline Tournament MVP Dashawn Warren. Both players were All-Skyline first-team selections as seniors last season. Sophomore Daimien Santana returns after earning Skyline Co-Rookie of the Year honors last year.

Manhattanville College, which returns five of its top six scorers, advanced to the Skyline championship game last season. Stevens, led by first-year head coach Josh Loeffler, returns its top four scorers from last year's team that advanced to the semifinals of the Skyline Tournament after finishing fifth during the regular season.

Mount Saint Mary (71) and St. Joseph's (70) were picked fourth and fifth respectively in what promises to be one of the most competitive seasons in conference history.
