Baseball Has Six All-Conference Selections

New York, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team has six players named All-Conference in voting conducted by the league's nine head coaches.

Senior outfielder Edward Bergmann (East Meadow, N.Y.), junior shortstop Anthony Alvino (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) and sophomore pitcher Alex Weingarten (East Rockaway, N.Y.) were named First Team All-Skyline, while junior outfielder Michael Marino (Franklin Square, N.Y.), junior second baseman Tom Rydzewski (Franklin Square, N.Y.) and freshman catcher Kenneth Johntry (Yaphank, N.Y.) received Second Team honors.

Bergmann, who started 31-of-33 games, leads the team in batting average (.441), runs (40), hits (49), doubles (8), slugging percentage (.568), on-base percentage (.522), stolen bases (29) and holds a perfect fielding percentage. In Division III, he ranks sixth for stolen bases per game, 11th in batting average, 16th in total stolen bases and 22nd in on-base percentage.

Alvino is batting .375 this season and ranks second on the Rams in doubles (6), triples (5), RBI (29), slugging percentage (.557) and on-base percentage (.456). In the Skyline, Alvino is second for triples, third in batting average and RBI and fourth in slugging percentage.

Weingarten in 5-1 on the year with two complete games in 11 appearances. His 1.60 earned run average is the best in the Skyline Conference. In 50.2 innings pitched, he has allowed only nine earned runs and held opponents to a .228 batting average.

Marino, who has played in every game, leads the Rams in triples (7), home runs (2) and runs batted in (33). He is batting .347 and holds a .983 fielding percentage (committed only one error). Nationally, Marino is ranked 22nd for triples and 29th for triples per game.

Rydzewski appeared in 34 games, while starting 32. He leads the team in at-bats (125), ranks second in runs (30) and stolen bases (16) and is third in hits (37) and doubles (5). Rydzewski has a .944 fielding percentage on the year.

Johntry has appeared in 33 games during his rookie campaign. He is second on Farmingdale State with a .994 fielding percentage and third with 133 putouts. Johntry is fourth in the conference after throwing out 11 runners attempting to steal.
