Rams Split Skyline DH with Rival Old Westbury

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Farmingdale State earned a 6-5 win in game one and Old Westbury won the second game in extra innings during today's Skyline Conference baseball doubleheader in Farmingdale, N.Y.
In game one, the Rams (16-9, 7-4) trailed 3-0 in the fifth before an Edward Bergmann (East Meadow, N.Y.) RBI fielders choice cut the deficit to 3-1. In their next at-bat, junior shortstop Anthony Alvino (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) tied the game with a 2 RBI single up the middle. An RBI single by junior designated hitter Ryan Levine (West Babylon, N.Y.) gave Farmingdale State their first lead of the game, 4-3.
The Rams increased the lead to 5-3 before a ninth inning ground rule double with bases loaded by Old Westbury (11-17, 9-4) senior first baseman John Angelino (Shirley, N.Y.) tied the game at 5-5.
In the bottom of the ninth, pinch hitter Daniel Paccione (Commack, N.Y.) led off with a triple to right field. After a pair of intentional walks, junior Tom Rydzewski (Franklin Square, N.Y.) scored the game-winning run after Old Westbury attempted to catch him in a run down.
Alvino was 2-for-3 at the plate with 2 RBI, while Rydzewski was 2-for-4 and scored a run. Freshman left fielder Richard Sullivan (Farmingdale, N.Y.) had two hits and scored a pair of runs for Farmingdale State.
Sophomore pitcher Alex Weingarten (East Rockaway, N.Y.) earned a no decision after allowing three earned runs in 8.2 innings of work.
In the second game, the Rams trailed 4-1 entering the bottom of the seventh inning. Junior right fielder Michael Marino (Franklin Square, N.Y.) hit a one out RBI double up the middle to cut the Panthers advantage to two. Rydzewski later tied the game at 4-4 with a 2 RBI single through the right side.
Junior catcher Brandon Stein (Plainview, N.Y.) hit a one out triple for Old Westbury in the top of the ninth and later scored on a sac fly to put the Panthers ahead 5-4.
The Rams were retired 1-2-3 in the bottom half of the ninth inning.
Marino was 2-for-5 with a run scored and 2 RBI, while Bergmann and senior Sal Sanquini (Levittown, N.Y.) each added two hits.
Old Westbury was led by junior left fielder Jonathan Pagan (Westbury, N.Y.) who was 3-for-5 with a three run homerun.
Senior pitcher Michael Dolce (St. James, N.Y.) allowed no earned runs on four hits in five innings for Farmingdale State.
The Rams next will host TCNJ in a non-conference game on Tuesday, April 15th at 4:00 p.m.
