Rams Split with Mount Saint Vincent in Conference Opener

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team (7-7, 1-1) split today's conference doubleheader with the College of Mount Saint Vincent (4-10, 1-1), falling 12-9 in the nine-inning game and then winning 8-1 in the seven-inning game. Junior right hander C.J. Bula (Bronx, N.Y.) got the win in game two, going 6.1 innings allowing just five hits and striking out two to improve his record to 3-0 this season.
In game one, junior right hander Chris Phelan (Patchogue, N.Y.) saw 5.1 innings of work, striking out seven batters. Phelan was relieved by senior left hander J.R. Lott (East Islip, N.Y.) in the sixth and the Dolphins would go ahead in the seventh inning with three runs on one hit, taking a 9-7 lead. Mount Saint Vincent added three more runs over the final two innings and took the 12-9 victory.
Rams junior outfielder Terrence Bohonan (Patchogue, N.Y.) was 2-for-3 with 3 RBI's in game one, while both senior first baseman Kevin Curtis (Riverhead, N.Y.) and freshman left fielder Anthony Ferrante (Holtsville, N.Y.) went 2-for-5 with one run scored and one RBI.
In game two, Farmingdale State scored their first run in the second inning with an RBI from junior catcher Frank Scarlato (Holbrook, N.Y.) and the Rams would never look back as Bula held the Dolphins to just five hits all game. Freshman right hander Mike Dolce (St. James, N.Y.) closed out the games final two outs with one strikeout.
Scarlato finished 1-for-2 with 3 RBI's, while sophomore designated hitter David Zilnicki (Riverhead, N.Y.) was 1-for-4 with 2 RBI's.
The Rams will have the week off before traveling to face conference rival Old Westbury on Saturday, March 26th in a doubleheader starting at noon.
